Skegness Weekender!

I'm really looking forward to this weekend as I'm off to the Skegness weekender tomorrow. Hopefully we should arrive in Skegness around 5pm just in time to settle in and get ready for the off around 8pm. I think that I shall be spending alot of time downstairs as most of my favourite DJ's shall be appearing there, playing crossover and modern. Especially looking forward to Soul Sam, Mark Hopes, Rob Kay and Steve Austin. Don't think I shall be going for my dance record of 123 this time but I'll see how it goes.

The Victory Club

It was our first visit to the Victory Club in Sheffield last night. I didn't really know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. It was mainly oldies with a few R&B. The place wasn't very big but it had a decent dance floor. I will definitely go back at some stage.

End of an Era!

What a good weekend. Friday was the last night at Ponds Forge Northern Soul venue. I had been looking forward to it for weeks as my favourite DJ Soul Sam was to be the guest. I was not at all disappointed as he played a brilliant spot as usual. Infact I enjoyed the whole night. It had been one of my favourite venues, as it's clean, has a large dance floor and the music is mostly across the board soul. The soul night is now moving a few miles away to Kiveton Park. I hope to have many great nights there too. Last night I went to Pilsley which I enjoyed more as a social night.

Next Weekend

It looks as though I shall be staying in this weekend. I'm not too disappointed as I am really looking forward to next weekend. Friday night will be a little sad as it's the last Ponds Forge which I have always enjoyed. It should go out with a bang as the countries number 1 DJ, Soul Sam (in my oponion) is making a guest appearance. Saturday is Pilsley where we shall be celebrating my friends birthday who will be the guest DJ there for October.

Mixed Feelings

It was another great night at Barrow Hill. The music was good and I had plenty of dances despite spending time on the door. The only disappointment was a fairly low attendance which was surprising after the last few months. I think I was wrong asuming that the holiday season had come to an end as many people seemed to take advantage of the last week before the school year commences. Thank you to Guest DJ, Mark Hopes who did a great spot as usual and to all that attended. Hopefully see you again next month, and back to full strength!

Barrow Hill!

I can't believe another month has passed so quickly. Back to Barrow Hill tomorrow night. Hopefully it should be as good as last month, if not better. Everyone should be back from their holidays so we should have a good crowd in. I'm hoping to have a few dances as Mark Hopes usually plays alot of my favourites. Anyway see you there.

Pilsley

Had a good night at Pilsley. I only had a four dances but my two favourite records were played, Looking Up To You - Michael Wycoff and Love Runs Out - Willie Hutch. It was fairly busy and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. I'm not sure if I'm out next weekend but the following Saturday is Barrow Hill which I am really looking forward to as the Guest DJ is Mark Hopes, one of my favourites. Hopefully I should get a few dances in that night.

Crackers

I was thinking about the olden days and was wondering if anyone remembered going to Crackers on Oxford Street London in the mid 70's? I used to go on a Monday night, it was supposed to be Northern Soul but was mostly Jazz Funk. It was free entry and really enjoyable. Also in the 70's I spent alot of time at the Olde E in Matlock. Did any readers go there? Tuesday and Friday nights were my favourites as they were mainly Northern Soul. We used to get quite a few people from the Nottingham and Sheffield areas. Thanks to the Olde E for my love of Northern Soul. My favourite records in those days were Love You Baby - Eddie Parker, Laws Of Love - The Volcanoes and Wanting You - April Stevens. It was like a dream actually seeing Eddie Parker singing that record at Prestatyn a few years ago.
